Obituary for Estel Edgar Perkins

Estel Edgar Perkins
Estel Edgar Perkins, 84, passed away April 4, 2015 at his home in Revelo, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Loudermilk and Bro. Ronnie Peters officiating. Burial followed in the Anderson Cemetery.
Estel was born March 25, 1931 in McCreary County to the late Lem Perkins and Opsy Gilreath Perkins.
He married Beatrice Ball on February 21, 1948. They were married for 67 years, truly walking the last mile together. Their love and dedication was a shining light of what marriage is supposed to be.
Estel retired in 1992 from Norfolk Southern Railway as a machine operator having worked for 37 years. He was a hard worker and became close friends with his co-workers, who always held a special place in his life.
He played the banjo for McCreary Gospel Singers for near 40 years. The group traveled many miles singing for the Lord and made many friends along the way.
He enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting. As he aged railroading and coon hunting were what he enjoyed talking about the most and his favorite dogs were Old Joe and Leed. He also enjoyed camping and gardening, but most of all he loved and enjoyed his family. Estel was a faithful member of Marsh Creek Baptist Church, where he so loved his church family.
Preceding him in death were a grandson, Terry Wayne Anderson, brothers, Chester and Lester Perkins, a sister, Gladys Bass, and his stepmother, Biddie Perkins.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice, daughter, Carolyn Sue Anderson and husband Darrell, whom he loved as his son. His grandchildren: Sherry, Dwight and Dwayne Anderson; and great-grandsons, Zach Slaven, Seth Anderson, Zane Slaven, Jacob Anderson, Luke Anderson, and Kaden Anderson.
He spent the last week of his life at home surrounded by his whole family. The family along with a very special person, Liz Shannon, cared for him with such love and compassion in his final days.
Estel was a humble man who spoke kind words and always had a smile. His words of wisdom to leave behind are, "You got to take the bitter with the sweet, there is no need to complain about it." He will be missed by all who knew him.
