Jimmie Edward “Jim” Ross went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 15, 2018 from his home in Stearns, being 72 years, 7 months, and 28 days old.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Ervin Foster and Bro. Jimmy Wayne Ross officiating. Burial was in the Angel Cemetery.
Jim was born in the Worley mining camp on October 18, 1945 to Jasper Ross and Pinkie (Hill) Ross. Jim graduated from McCreary County High School and served proudly in the US Army during the Viet Nam war with the 7th cavalry regiment. Jim worked as a coal miner, was a master carpenter and was employed by the Job Corps at the time of his retirement. Jim was an avid reader who also loved making fudge and sharing with everyone. He also loved his dogs, but his favorite thing was spending time with his family
Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue (West) Ross, two sons, Jimmie E. Ross, Jr. and his wife, Angie, all of Stearns, Christopher B. Ross and his wife, Jennifer, of Owensboro, Kentucky, a brother, Lonzo Ross and his wife, Linda, of Pine Knot, a sister, Lora Mae Wilson, of Revelo, two granddaughters, Megan Melton and Tori Ross, and one great grandchild, Dallas Melton. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and relatives.
Preceding him in death are his parents, four brothers, Fred, Esau, Tom and Jasper Ross, Jr. and two sisters, Flo Crowe and Shirley Sluss.
A member of East Apple Tree United Baptist Church, Jim will be remembered for his many acts of Christian charity and random kindness, his quiet, easy going demeanor, and his love and devotion to his family.
