Lily Opal West age 86 years and 21 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Sewell officiating. Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery.
She was born February 18, 1930 in Somerset, Kentucky to Albert Martin and Victoria (Denney) Martin. Opal was a homemaker and a member of the Walker's Chapel Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano. In past time, Opal and her sisters, professionally known as "The Martin Sisters", had performed regularly through the southeast. The Martin Sisters appeared on Lowell Blanchard's "Mid-day Merry Go Round on WNOX Radio. Together, the sisters also owned and operated a restaurant. Opal was family oriented, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crafting, cooking, and baking.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Bethel West; brothers, Homer and Lester Martin; sisters, Roxie Butler, Christine Martin, and Charlene Martin; and a grandchild, Kandi West.
Survivors include her sons, Allen West and wife, Lisa, of Stearns, Kentucky, and Chris West and wife, Jeannie, of Revelo, Kentucky; grandchildren, Landon, Erika, and Ryan; a great-granddaughter, Lily Martin; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Mrs. Opal West.
