Pastor Robert Loyd King age 81 years, 7 months, and 2 days of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Whitley City First Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Bro. Eddie King and Bro. Braxton King officiating. Burial followed in the Otter Creek Cemetery.
He was born August 10, 1932 in the Bear Creek Community of McCreary County, Kentucky to Charles Newton King and Delphia (Spradlin) King. Loyd was saved at the age of 17 and became an ordained minister in 1951. He pastored multiple churches before his retirement including, Otter Creek Baptist, Whitley City Second Baptist, and Foster's Crossroads. Loyd was a member of the First Hickory Grove Baptist and pastored the church for 35 years. He was devoted to preaching the gospel and serving Christ and his church. Loyd was also a member of the Honorable order of Kentucky Colonels, the Orie S. Ware Lodge, and was a 32nd degree Mason. Loyd made his living as a carpenter, building numerous houses throughout the community.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a son, Gary L. King, 2 infant brothers, Wilburn and Forrest King, and 2 sisters, Georgia Ross and Virgina Baird.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Dean (Hancock) King; sons, Faron Lee King and wife, Cathy, of Whitley City, Kentucky and Braxton N. King and wife, Monica, of Strunk, Kentucky; daughters, Jeannie Gail West and husband, Chris, of Revelo, Kentucky, and Jill Ann Bradley of Strunk, Kentucky; brothers, Logan King and wife, Sheila, of Somerset, Kentucky and Coye King and wife, Sudie, of London, Kentucky; sisters, Ruth Vanover and husband, Dr. Gilbert, of Stearns, Kentucky, Delta Tucker of Stearns, Kentucky, Betty Bown and husband, Larry, of Whitley City, Kentucky, Myrtle Burkett and husband, Garvis, of Somerset, Kentucky, and Wanda Gregory and husband, Donald, of Covington, Indiana; grandchildren, Jordyn King, Jacob Polley, Preston King, Michelle Kidd, Landon West, Erica Martin, Brandon King, Brittany King, Joshua Bradley, and Ethan Bradley; a great-grandchild, Cody King; and a great-great-grandchild, Timothy Polley.
