Obituary for Mabel Irene Jones (Earls)
Mabel Irene Jones age 93 years, 2 months, and 4 days, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Whitley City First Baptist Church with Bro. Denny Helton officiating. Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery.
She was born March 22, 1921 in Whitley County, Kentucky to Walter Earls and Dora (Allen) Earls. Mabel became a member of the Whitley City First Baptist in 1938. She was united in marriage to Thurman H. Jones on May 15, 1938 and together they raised 12 children. Mabel was a true definition of what a wife and mother should be. She devoted her life to serving the Lord and caring for her family and children. Mabel enjoyed quilting and reading.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Thurman, a daughter, Sue Carol Jones; three grandchildren, Leslie Hatfield, Terra Jones, and Barry Conatser; great-grandson, Kenneth Conatser, brothers, Arnold J. Earls, James Earls, and Ernest Earls, sisters, Sammie Perkins and Fayrene Earls.
Survivors include her sons, Arlis Ray "Wad" Jones and wife, Sharmin, of Nicholasville, KY, Robert Larry Jones and wife, Nelda, of Whitley City, KY, Rodney Dale Jones and wife, Jo Ann, of Somerset, KY, and Ruben Jones and wife, Rhonda, of Parkers Lake, KY; daughters, Katy Gilreath, Lana Perry, Beverly Hatfield, all of Whitley City, KY, Barbara West of Oneida, TN, Angela Owens of Pine Knot, KY, Sharon Conatser and her husband, Roger, of Mt. Sterling, KY, Patrician Kearney and her husband, Paul, of Burnside, KY, and Donna Jones of Lexington, KY; a brother, Norman W. Earls and wife, Jenny, of Texas; sisters, Norma Jean Perry and husband, Jay, of Whitley City, KY, Wilma Joyce Duncan of Macon, GA; and Susan Watters and husband, Ronnie, of Whitley City, KY; 34 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Ms. Mabel Jones.
