Rae Taylor, age 95, of Parkers Lake, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2:00 at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Decker officiating. Burial was in the Mill Creek Cemetery.
She was born May 19, 1922 in Honeybee to Lewis Martin and Ida Renfro Martin. Rae was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of both Cumberland College and Eastern Kentucky University. Rae dedicated her life to teaching, beginning her career at the Sawyer School in 1940 where she taught first through eighth grade in a one room school. She also taught in the Mill Creek, Greenwood, Parkers Lake, and Eagle Schools. She was known as Miss Rae to her students and retired from the McCreary County School System in 1981. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, fishing, and gardening.
Preceding her in death were he parents, her husband, Dave Taylor, sons, Daniel Earl Taylor, who died while serving his country, Phillip Taylor and Tommy Taylor, brothers, Delmer Martin and Foist Martin, and sisters, Dorothy Wahl, Faye Gilreath, and Glenna Taylor.
Survivors include her son, David Taylor of Parkers Lake, grandchildren, Lynelle Medecke and David Taylor both of Cincinnati, great grandchildren, Hunter Taylor and Alyssa Medecke, the mother of her grandchildren, Jeanette Taylor, and sisters, Thelma Taylor, Anna Neal, Melrose Warman, and Wilma Calvert.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Mill Creek United Methodist Church.
