Scott Vanderpool, age 86 years, 6 months, and 17 days, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, Whitley City with Dr. John Ditty and Bro. Scott Seiber officiating. Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery.
He was born March 23, 1927 in Garrard County, Kentucky to Russell Vanderpool and Kitty Shear Vanderpool. Scotty was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the infantry during WWII and was a lifetime member of the Kinne-Slaven Post 115 of the American Legion and a charter member of VFW Post 5127, where he was currently serving as Chaplain. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Whitley City, where he served as deacon, trustee, and former Chairman of deacons. Scotty was capable of doing almost anything and had held various jobs throughout his life. Those jobs included farming, working for the Canada Dry distilleries at Camp Nelson, working for the Savania Company in Versailles, managing the Continental Towers in Lexington, a mechanical engineer for the Marriott Corporation, working for Lumber King in Whitley City, and in public relations for the McCreary County Water District before his retirement.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Kinsella Vanderpool of Whitley City, Kentucky, whom he married December 20, 1949, a son Russell Thomas (Tommy) Vanderpool of Versailles, Kentucky, two grandsons, Nicholas Scott Vanderpool and Robert Thomas Vanderpool, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
