Bessie Lenora Lloyd age 83 years, 8 months, and 16 days of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the McCreary Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Watson and Bro. Mike Neal officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
She was born March 24, 1930 in Shoopman, Kentucky to Dewey Spradlin and Lola (King) Spradlin. Bessie was a member of the Pine Knot Southern Baptist Church, being the oldest Charter member. She was also a member of the Kentucky Colonel and the Laurel Heights Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bessie was a teacher for the McCreary County School System for 32 years. She began teaching at Beech Grove, moving onto Otter Creek, and later teaching at the Green School in Mt. Pleasant, Slaven's, Whitley City, Revelo, Pine Knot Middle and the Pine Knot Elementary School. Outside of teaching, Bessie enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and being active in Church. She loved her family. After the death of her mother, Bessie helped raise her younger siblings. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Donald Lloyd, a brother, Chester Spradlin, a sister, Kizzie Spradlin Owens, and an infant sister, Helen.
She is survived by her sisters, Betty Jones and husband, Howard, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Nelda Gilreath and husband, Vernon, also of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Carolyn Meadows of Somerset, Kentucky, and Geraldine Hankla and husband, Bill, of Lilburn, Georgia; special home care givers, Nora Mae Walker,Jennifer Wilson, and Kathy Baird; and several nieces and nephews.
Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Mrs. Bessie Lloyd.
